Open Position: Lab Technician at the Brain Circuits and Behavior Lab at IDIBAPS


The Brain Circuits and Behavior Lab (braincircuitsbehavior.org) afiliated with IDIBAPS (www.clinicbarcelona.org/en/idibaps) is currently looking for an Animal Research Lab Technician to work in our group. Our lab offers an interdisciplinary stimulating environment, that values rigor, collaboration, close mentoring and critical but positive thinking. We are also a active member of the Barcelona Cognitive Computational and Systems Neuroscience community (barccsyn.org) .

This is a opportunity for a strongly motivated person to work develop her/his general research skills as well as to learn state-of-the-art System Neurosciencen methodologies.

We offer:

  • A 2 years contract to become the Lab technician of our team, participating in all the laboratory activities.

You will:

  • Train rats and mice in performing simple perceptual tasks using a computer-controlled system that records and controls the behavioral apparatus.

  • Perform brain surgeries for implanting subcranial electrodes or cannulas.

  • Conduct the behavioral experiments during which animals brain activity will be recorded or manipulated.

  • Quantify and monitor the behavioral performance of the animals using custom-made software. Make simple reports about behavioral performance using simple data analysis programs (e.g. Excell, Python).

  • Place laboratory orders regarding the animal experiments.

Our requirements:

  • Previous experience working with mice and rats is an advantage.

  • Responsibility, attention to detail and high motivation.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong problem-solving skills as well as organizational capabilities.

  • Ability to keep track of multiple simultaneous animal experiments.

  • Basic computer skills are also necessary. Any experience on using Arduino cards or programing skills in any language will be highly valued.

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written). Notions of Spanish or Catalan will be a plus.
